The new principal at St Michael’s Church of England Primary School, Figheldean was ‘Commissioned’ at the local church recently in a special service.
Nicky Philips was welcomed by the St Michael’s and All Angels Church community last Sunday. Within the service, the local community, parents and children publically stated their support for her new role. Nicky was presented with the keys to the school as a symbol of her headship, and a bible.
Chris Hargrave was also commissioned in his role as a Foundation Academy Advisory Board Member at Durrington All Saints’ Church of England Infants School.
“This is an important but optional ceremony, acknowledging the important role these people have within this school,” said Clare Tunnicliffe, Salisbury Plain Academies Trustee.
Also attending the special service was Judith Finney from the Salisbury Diocese Board of Education.
Helen Mathieson CEO of Salisbury Plain Academies, of which St Michael’s is a part, said, “Our Trust is a mix of Faith and non-Faith schools, as St Michael’s is a Church of England school, this special service acknowledges Nicky’s important role within that primary school and its community. I know she has the full support from parents, her colleagues, trustees and board members.”
